History Hour 5 – August 19, 2004 – “Goan Out migration to the Middle East”

The presentation/discussion was based on a project of the Research Institute for Women, Goa (RIW) entitled “Goan Out migration to the Middle East“. Out migration specially to the Middle East has been a major feature of Goan society and has impacted Goa  and the Goans in more ways then one. This prompted the RIW to investigate the various aspects of this phenomenon. Hence the  project is multidisciplinary (history, economics, sociology). The presentation and discussion was well received and the panellists received some suggestions and feedback from the audience.  

Dr. Fátima da Silva Gracias, specialized  in Indo-Portuguese history, is author and lecturer of history at V. M. Salgaonkar College of Law, Miramar, founder member and President of Research Institute for Women (RIW), Goa. 

Prof. Ramola Antão is former Head of Department of English, Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Panaji, and presently in charge of Postgraduate diploma Course in journalism and mass Communication conducted by Dhempe College of Arts and Science. 

Prof. Isabel Santa Rita Vas is senior lecturer  at Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Director of Mustard Seed Art Company, founder member of RIW  and Positive People.

Dr. Zinia da Silva is Head of Department of Philosophy, Dhempe College of Arts and Science and member of RIW.

Dr. Carmo Souza is writer and senior lecturer at V. M. Salgaonkar College of Law, Miramar.
